The idea of the Birds were hatched one day in the studio when I pulled out a pile of abstract monoprints that I had made over the years by pressing paper down on wet paint. These monoprints always surprised me by the unexpected effects that came from the type of paper, the consistency of the paint, and the various color combinations. I took out a sharp knife and just started cutting out shapes and arranging them in abstract compositions. Birds began to appear and I didn’t stop them. I’ve always been an observer of bird anatomy so, the combination of the printed paper with the winged shapes that emerged naturally, brought me to these mixed-medium compositions.
